Not gonna lie, having been born and raised in Inglewood and spending most of my time in Ktown / Hancock Park areas, this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone say this.
I always knew Quarters to be the super overpopulated, super long wait time, too-expensive-for-the-quality, “Kim K and Kanye ate there!” spot that you should avoid if possible.
I apologize. I didn’t mean any offense, truly, I was just very surprised. I’m no expert, but I definitely did prefer AG over Quarters, and besides that, I felt Park’s BBQ and Soowon Galbi had better quality meat and not as sceney.
I think these might be more expensive, but would still recommend them over Quarters any day—as did my FOB friends, haha. Have you tried those other two? If so, still Quarters?!
Been to all of the above, including the original Baekjeong (6th now closed) and many contemporaries in around K-Town / SGV over the years.
I've never had a bad experience at Quarters, and it's just a lot of fun, especially when you're with a group.
I guess if you don't drink, looking at purely the food alone, there is likely a better value or quality in some other places - I'm sure. Or, if you get very picky about absolute top-quality meats (which you pay up) and / or variety of banchan, places like Genwa - even though some could argue as "inauthentic" - are hard to be beat. Expensive sure, but you're not left stuck drinking Hite (nothing against it if you're a beer drinker) and you have great food, service, and ambiance (although much more chill).
The reason why we usually pass on Parks, et al is the ho-hum ambiance those places typically have... lots of fluorescent lights, (often) poor ventilation, inconsistent service, cooking, and quality. Plus, if you want to go out afterwards in many of those other spots, it's a hike or an Uber to get to the action... I can walk right out of Quarters and have a killer cocktail at Normandy, and head off to a myriad of other spots for a fun night out.
Again, definitely not claiming to be an authority on all things KBBQ in LA, but for a one-shot experience, it's hard to beat Quarters in my book.
I Want to try cactus wren omg
It’s good to learn about foods you’ve never tried before. When I get the chance, I’ll go with the Goanese oxtail.
Glad to see NYC has another good option for KBBQ. Slight misspelling here though - it should be "Ahgassi".
Also, next time on West Coast hit up Quarters... scene, drinks, service, and banchan much better than AG.
Yes! Totally boofed the spelling on that one. Even proofread it. Will definitely check that spot out next time I’m out west though. Thanks!

Not my or my friends experience whatsoever.
But if you going to throw some shade, what's your "expert" recommendation?
For the record, I live in Venice and could care less about celebrity culture.
